With a colorfully lush setting and interesting storyline, Kingdom Hearts manages to combine dramatic Square elements with pure Disney fun.

The Destiny Islands are a haven of summer where the sandy shores and azure skies are filled with the laughter of children. This paradise is home to a simple minded youth named Sora, and his two friends, Riku and Kairi. Together the three are working together to build a raft, hoping to set sail and discover new worlds. The night before the trio are supposed to start their journey, an ominous storm engulfs the islands. Emerging from the squall are shadowy figures known as heartless. The dark figures attack Sora's island as he frantically tries to find his friends. Sora finds Kairi, who is acting strangely. A violent gust of wind blows her into his arms and she dissapears. Confused, Sora continues to search for Riku. He encounters his friend who beckons Sora to the darkness. Refusing to be swallowed by the darkness, Sora loses conciousness and awakens in a strange new world, Traverse Town.
Here he meets Donald and Goofy, two members of King Mickey's royal court, who are searching for both the Keyblade Master and their absent king. After encountering the Traverse Town Heartless Brigade, Sora learns of his destiny as the Keyblade Master, a person with the ability to lock worlds and prevent heartless from entering them.
And thus, the adventure begins...
Along with Donald and Goofy, Sora sets off an a journey to reunite with his friends and stop the heartless from destroying more worlds.
